10 Tips to pick the best essential oil diffuser

So you finally decided to get yourself a diffuser ?

Yay! 

Great decision !

But which one should you get ??

There are so many to choose from.

Oh No!

DIFFUSER OVERWHELM strikes again !

Let me help you !

Here are 10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW to make the right choice for you.

1. SIZE

Not too small & not too big.

I use a Petal diffuser that can hold 150 ml water.

That's enough to last me up to 4 hours with only 4-6 drops of essential oil.

And that's for a regular sized living room.

So ask yourself if you need more than that?

2. EASY TO CLEAN

Diffusers come in all shapes & sizes & all sorts of awesome designs.

But beware, some are very impractical.

Check if your diffuser is easy to fill & easy to clean.

Can you give it a proper wipe on the inside if necessary?

For example, the top of my Petal diffuser can easily be removed  for refilling and cleaning.

3. RUN TIME

Check out the run-time of the diffuser. 

Different diffusers have different running times. 

Some even go up to 10 hours.

On my Petal 2.0 diffuser I have the option to set the run-time to 2 hours and 6 hours continuously.

I can also set it to 12 hours intermittently (5 mins on - 5 min off) which can be nice for night-time.

These are nice options to have.

4. NICE & QUIET

There is a lot of difference in the noise levels of diffusers.

The point of having a diffuser is to relax & enjoy the aroma.

So I'm guessing you don't want an annoying background noise disturbing your peace.

And you certainly don't want to hear a nasty 'beep' every time your diffuser turns on and off.

It's good to research this before you buy your diffuser.

5. AUTOMATIC STOP

For safety reasons check that the diffuser stops automatically when it runs out of water.

That way you don't have to worry about leaving your diffuser on whilst you're running errands.

6. LIGHT

My Petal diffuser has a nice white light that can also serve as a night light.

Other diffusers have decorative multicoloured light features.

Decide for yourself if having a light feature is important to you.

And be sure you have the option of also turning the light off.

7. PLUG

This may sound silly, but check if your plug matches your country (EU-plug/UK-plug/US-plug). 

Some diffusers also have rechargeable batteries and/or USB-connections.

See what power supply best meets your needs.

8. TYPE

There are many different types of diffusers: nebulizing, ultrasonic, heat and evaporative diffusers. 

They all have their own unique method for getting essential oils into the air.

The Petal diffuser I use is an ultrasonic one.

It uses water and high electronic frequencies to create a fine cool mist from the essential oil and water. 

This is a quiet & popular type of diffuser.

9. DURABLE

Go for a good solid diffuser that will last you a while.

After all you will be using it every day, 365 days a year !

I recommend going for quality.

There's nothing worse than having your new diffuser break down on you.

Check the material they're made of.  (Is it really wood or just lookalike ?)

Also check if the diffuser comes with a reasonable warranty.

10. PRICE

As you may have noticed, diffusers come in a wide price range.

You can spend anything from € 10,00 to over €100,00.

It really all depends on your budget and the features you choose.

Inform yourself about any possible hidden costs involved, like buying extra cartridges, batteries etc.

Me, I like to keep it simple.

My Petal 2.0 diffuser retails at € 55,00.

All I have to do is add water and my essental oils.

No hidden extra costs.

So there you have it.

Your 10 tips to pick the best diffuser for your needs.
